On Jun 5 1917 George David Hinshaw, age 27, registered for the World War I draft in Sonoma County, California. He declared he was born August 21 1889 in Petaluma, California, and was then residing at 315 Walnut St., Petaluma, and was single, employed by the Belding Bros. of Petaluma. He declared he had previous military service as a private in the National Guard Infantry [apparently in 1916]. He was recorded as tall, brown eyes, dark hair.⁶

During World War I George served as a corporal in the 319th Engineers, U.S. Army.^1,5

He married Helen E. Goodleigh, Feb 7 1930, San Francisco, San Francisco County, California.^8,9 Helen was born about 1903, Kentucky.⁹

George and Helen were shown in the 1930 census (Apr 8 1930), 725 O'Farrell St., San Francisco, California:⁹
