John A. Hinshaw (also recorded as Henshaw) served as a private in Company D, 27th Indiana Volunteer Infantry:3,4,5 he enlisted as a private on Sep 12 1861;6 he was recorded as age 21 (probably incorrect), height 6'0", a farmer, from Martin County, Indiana4 (Lawrence County, Indiana).6  

John A. Hinshaw died Sep 17 1862, Antietam, Maryland.1,4,6  John died in the Civil War -1 killed at the Battle of Antietam,4,6 Sep 17 1862.6,7  (between Sep 17 - Sep 29 1862, White House Hospital, Sharpsburg, Maryland).5
