CRISFIELD -- Stanley Cochrane Sterling, 77, of Crisfield died suddenly Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, of an apparent heart attack at his home.  

Born in Crisfield Dec. 11, 1926, he was a son of the late Arlie Graham Sr. and Ada Cochrane Sterling.  His first wife, Carolyn E. Henshaw Sterling, preceded him in death March 11, 1993.  

He was a retired co-owner of John T. Handy Seafood Co. in Crisfield and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Marion Station.  

He is survived by his devoted wife, Patsy Milbourne Sterling, at home in Crisfield; his loving daughter and son-in-law, Betsy Sterling Merklein and Jack Merklein Jr. of Manassas, Va.; two brothers and their wives, Arlie Graham Jr. and Judith Sterling of Norfolk, Mass., and Joseph C. and Ruth Ellen Sterling of Crisfield; one sister, Ada V. Sterling Ammerman of Yorktown, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.  

In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. James A. Sterling, who died May 4, 1996.  

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Marion Station.  The Rev. William Truitt will officiate.  An urn interment will follow in the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends in the parish house next to the church following the committal service.  

Memorial contributions are requested to be sent to Lower Somerset County Ambulance and Rescue Squad, LSCARS, PO Box 406, Crisfield, Md. 21817 or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, c/o William Martin Atkins, 26417 Silver Lane, Crisfield, Md. 21817.  

Arrangements are being handled by Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.
