Henshaw, was born Dec 29 1852 in Brooklyn, New York and had then resided 63 years uninterruptedly in the Brooklyn from 1852 to 1916. Arthur declared he was then residing in Brooklyn, New York, occupied as a salesman. He declared he intended to depart Aug 31 1916 from the port of New Orleans, sailing on board the Suriname, intending to visit Central America for the purpose of business. He was recorded as age 40, 5' 10" tall, brown eyes, grey hair, fair complexion, oval face, round chin, with a mustache. His passport application was accompanied by a letter from Deering, Milliken & Co. of New York, "cotton goods manufacturers", affirming that Arthur was being sent to Central America on a business trip.³

On Aug 29 1917 Arthur Cook Henshaw was issued a U.S. passport. He declared he was born October 6th 1875 in Brooklyn, New York, and his father, Henry T. Henshaw, was born in Brooklyn, New York. Arthur declared he was then residing at 152 6th Ave., Brooklyn, New York, occupied as a salesman. He declared he intended to depart Sep 13 1917 from the port of New Orleans, sailing on board the Suriname, intending to visit Central America for the purpose of commercial business. He was recorded as age 41, 5' 10" tall, brown eyes, gray hair, fair complexion, oval face, round chin, with a mustache. His passport application was accompanied by a letter from The O'Brien Trading Corporation, "exporters and importers", affirming that Arthur was being sent on a "selling trip" to British Honduras, Honduras, Guatemala, Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.³

On May 1 1918 Arthur Cook Henshaw and wife Effie C. Henshaw were issued a U.S. passport. He declared he was born October 6th 1875 in Brooklyn, New York, and his father, Henry T. Henshaw, was born in Brooklyn, New York and died in Brooklyn June 21st 1916. Arthur declared he was then residing at 152 6th Ave., Brooklyn, New York, occupied as an exporter, and that he had also resided in Central America from Aug 29 1917 to Dec 1917, his previous passport issued Aug 29 1917 and surrendered at New Orleans Dec 10 1917. He declared he intended to depart from the port of San Francisco or Seattle, sailing on board "the first steamer possible", intending to visit [..unclear..], Manchuria via Japan, and China for the purpose of "commercial business connected with the" [..unclear..] "branch office of The O'Brien Trading Corp of which I am vice president". He was recorded as age 42, 5' 10" tall, brown eyes, gray hair, ruddy complexion, oval face, round chin, with a mustache.³

On Oct 2 1918 Arthur Cook Henshaw, age 42, registered for the World War I draft at the American Consulate in Peking [Beijing], China. He declared he was born October 6 1875 in Brooklyn, New York, and his then-permanent address was 152 Sixth Ave., Brooklyn, New York, where he was employed as a Secretary for C.B. Hayward & Co. of New York. He declared he was married, with a dependent wife. He was recorded as medium height, medium build, brown eyes, white hair.²

On Mar 17 1919 Arthur Cook Henshaw and his wife Effie C. were issued a U.S. passport. He declared he was born October 6th 1875 in Brooklyn, New York, and his father, Henry T. Henshaw, was born in Brooklyn, New York and had died June 21st 1916. Arthur declared he was then residing at 152 6th Ave., Brooklyn, New York, occupied as an exporter, and that he had also resided in China from July [unclear] 28 1918 to Nov 1918, his previous passport issued May 1 1918 and surrendered at San Francisco. He declared he intended to depart Apr 10 1919 from the port of Vancouver, sailing on board the Empress of Russia, intending to visit Hong Kong, Singapore, Java and Manilla for the purpose of commercial business. He was recorded as age 43, 5' 10" tall, brown eyes, grey hair, ruddy complexion, oval face, round chin, with a mustache. His passport application was accompanied by an affidavit from C. B. Hayward & Co. Inc. affirming that Arthur was being sent to "sell for export" "cotton piece goods".³

On Mar 2 1921 Arthur Cook Henshaw was issued a U.S. passport. He declared he was born October sixth 1875 in Brooklyn, New York, and his father, Henry T. Henshaw, was born in Brooklyn, New York and had "died in Brooklyn 1916". Arthur declared he was then residing at 152 6th Ave., Brooklyn, New York, occupied as an exporter. He declared he intended to depart Mar 15 1921 from the port of New York, sailing on board the Santa Marta [or Maria?], intending to visit Columbia, Venezuela, and British & Dutch West Indies for the purpose of commercial business. He was recorded as age 45, 5' 10" tall, brown eyes, grey hair, ruddy complexion, oval face, round chin, with a mustache. His passport application was accompanied by a letter from the president of C. B. Hayward & Co. Inc.³
