Maxine Louise (Hinshaw) Thomas (1920 - 2013) Maxine Louise Thomas, 93, of Kilgore, passed away Friday, December 13, 2013, in Kilgore. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore.
Maxine was born May 15, 1920, to Max and Margaret Hinshaw of Denver, Colorado.
Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, she is a 1938 graduate of East High School. Upon graduation she attended Barnes Business School.
During World War II to present, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. In 1942, she married the love of her life, Harry VanDyke Thomas. She lived her married life with Van and managed their family farm in Wiggins, Colorado, where they raised their children as well as plenty of sheep. In 1965, she began her career with AT&T, from where she retired in 1985.
Upon retirement, she relocated to Kilgore where she was part owner and bookkeeper of Specialty Travel.
Maxine was a volunteer at the East Texas Oil Museum for 25 years; she was a Pink Lady at Laird Memorial Hospital during this time as well. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Kilgore.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by her children; daughter, Bonnie, and husband Bruce Crump, Kilgore; son, Tommie Van Thomas, and wife, Janet, Wiggins, Colorado; brother, Ervin M. Hinshaw, and sister-in-law, Carol, Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Bart Crump, Brad Crump, Shane Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Cole and Caroline Crump.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Van Dyke Thomas, and grandson, Lonnie Van Thomas.
Memorials may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Kilgore (401 North Main, Kilgore, Texas 75662) or Heart to Heart Hospice (100 W. Hawkins Pkwy., Suite A, Longview, Texas 75605).
