Irene Tatone Henshaw (1931 - 2014)

HENSHAW, IRENE TATONE, 83, passed away on September, 14, 2014 at Haven Hospice in Lake City Florida.  She graduated from Chicago Teachers College in Chicago Illinois.  She taught grade school in Chicago for many years before moving to Miami in 1974.  She taught art and religion for many more years at St. Rose of Lima in Miami Shores Florida.  Irene was the Development Director of the Development Board and she was responsible for the school receiving the exemplary School achievement award twice.  She was an accomplished artist that specialized in portraits.  In Chicago, she was responsible for creating an amazing art mural on the hallway wall of Dirksen Elementary School.  The mural taught the students the history of art.  It was the focus of many articles and newspaper accounts.  In Miami, she raised awareness for child safety and lobbied to have a "drop-off" cal de sac fo the children at Ojus Elementary.  Irene was also an accomplished writer who was published in several art and literacy magazines.  At heart, she was extremely creative, whether at art, writing, thought, or in life.  She traveled extensively with her husband Robert of 62 years.  She had a love for Mexico and Italy which they visited often.  As a mother she was loving and caring.  She will be missed but in our hearts live forever.  She is survived by her loving husband Robert Henshaw of Lake City, Florida; son: Keith Henshaw (Marly) of Aventura, Florida; daughters: Stacy Parsons (Scott) of Lake City and Wendy Person (Steve) of Atlanta, Georgia and Kimberly Henshaw her Guardian Angel; Grandchildren: Christopher Deane (Chantelle) and James Deane and Michaela Henshaw; Great grandchildren: Kayla, Chris Jr., Cameron, and Emma.
