Larry "Louie" Hanshaw, Jr., age 51, of Pleasant Plain, Iowa, died Monday, December 16, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City after complications from a work injury. Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at the First Church of God in Brighton, Iowa with Pastor Ryan Meader officiating. Visitation will begin 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the First Church of God in Brighton where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 Thursday evening. Interment with military honors will take place at the Pleasant Plain Cemetery. A general memorial has been established. Online condolences may be sent for Louie's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com.
Larry "Louie" Hanshaw, Jr. was born March 28, 1962 in Washington, Iowa the son of Larry Hanshaw, Sr. and Virginia (Knight) Hanshaw Gleason. He attended Fairfield High School. Louie served in the Iowa National Guard from 1980 until 2007. He was united in marriage to Gina Johnson on January 24, 1991 in Pleasant Plain, Iowa.
Louie was a lifelong resident of Pleasant Plain, Iowa. He worked for the city of Fairfield, and was previously federally employed by the National Guard at OMS 12 as a mechanic.
Louie attended the First Church of God in Brighton. He was a member of the Fairfield VFW. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and camping. He adored his grandchildren. He enjoyed working on cars and spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Gina Hanshaw, of Pleasant Plain, Iowa; daughter Amanda Anderson and husband Nathan of Keota, Iowa; daughter Megan Waterhouse and husband Trent of Wayland, Iowa; son Trevor Hanshaw and significant other Elizabeth Tschantz of Brighton, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Aidan, Addy, Nolan, and Noah Anderson; Chase, Bryson, and Abigail Waterhouse; and Easton Davis; mother Virginia Gleason of Pleasant Plain, Iowa; brother Terry Hanshaw and wife Joni of Fairfield, Iowa; sister Kim Schreffler and husband Gary of Tennessee; in-laws Ron and Susie Farrington of Wayland, Iowa; in-laws Harold and Judy Johnson of Greeneville, Tennessee several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers and sisters-in law.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Hanshaw, Sr. in 1992 and his grandparents.
