He married Mary -2 [Polly -3]. Mary was born Jun 24 1776.2
It seems that John apparently died between 1810 and 1820.3
Polly and family were shown in the 1820 census, Lawrence County, Indiana:3
Polly Hinshaw household:
1 male age 26-45 (son
John?).
1 female age 26-45 (Polly).
Living two households away in 1820 was the family of a William White,3 possibly the family of Elizabeth White who married son John.4
Mary was shown in the 1830 census, living with the family of son John in Lawrence County, Indiana:5
1 male age 20-30 (son
John).
1 female [sic] under age 5 (grandson
John).
1 female age 20-30 (
John's wife Elizabeth).
1 female age 60-70 (Mary).
4 persons total in household.
Mary was shown in the 1840 census, living with the family of son John in Martin County, Indiana:6
1 male age 5-10 (grandson
John).
1 male age 30-40 (son
John).
1 female age 30-40 (
John's wife Elizabeth).
1 female age 60-70 (Mary).
7 persons total in household.
1 person employed in agriculture.
Mary died May 23 1846, buried Port Williams Cemetery, Williams, Lawrence County, Indiana.2
Note that Mary/Polly, the wife of this John, has a gravestone engraved "Consort of John Hinshaw Sen." (Senior), and the first wife of son John, Elizabeth White, is buried with a gravestone engraved "Consort of John Hinshaw Jun." (Junior). Both are buried in the same cemetery.2 Therefore it has been deduced that John #2327 was the son of this John and Mary/Polly Hinshaw.
An addition son of this family was probably William Hinshaw #2256.4
There have been some genealogy trees showing this John as the same as John Hinshaw #81, who married a Mary Hastings. However that marriage didn't occur until 1808, and son John was born in 1803. John Hinshaw #81 was also married in Randolph County, North Carolina, whereas son John was reportedly born in Chatham County.

A biographical sketch of granddaughter Elizabeth Jane Hinshaw was published in the 1889 "Biographical and Historical Souvenir for the Counties of Clark, Crawford, Harrison, Floyd, Jefferson, Jennings, Scott, and Washington, Indiana"7 - see: http://books.google.com/books?id=TBvVAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA243#v=onepage
