He married Verbenia Dove4 [Berthemia Dove1], Dec 26 18834, Mobile, Alabama4.  Verbenia, daughter of Osburn + Sarah Dove, was born Dec - 1863, Mississippi.1,2  

Alec made his livelihood as a charcoal burner.1

In September 1903, Alec Hanshaw acquired ten acres of land in the NE/4, NE/4, of the NW/4 of Section 1, T8S-R8W from Walter R. Bilbo (1859-1927).  This land is near the Belle Fountain Baptist Church.  It was still in the Hanshaw family as late as July 1957, when Chester Hanshaw agreed to let Bryan Bilbo use his land for a pasture.1  

Verbenia died before May 11 1910.3

Alec Hanshaw died Jan 16 1913, age 59.1,5  

When Alec died he left five minor children; Thomas I. Keys (1861-1931) was appointed their guardian.  In addition to his land, Alec Hanshaw left his nine heirs $1000 from his Odd Fellows Benefit Association life insurance policy.  He was a member of Eureka Lodge No. 4844 in Ocean Springs.1
