Born about 1822.1  

He married Nancy Coffee9,10,11 [Nancy Coffey1,12], Oct 17 18479,10,11, Grainger County, Tennessee9,10,11.  Nancy, daughter of Joel Coffey & Elizabeth Grubb, was born Oct - 1830, Tennessee.1,13  

A marriage bond was recorded for John Hinshaw & Nancy Coffee on Oct 16 1847, Grainger County, Tennessee.  They were married the following day by J. H. Dyer, J.P.  John's brother, Jacob Hinshaw, was the recorded bondsman.9  

Nancy was the sister of Susannah Coffee (Coffey), whose son later married John's niece, Artlissa Hinshaw.4

Just five days after the 1900 census was taken, daughter Caroline died on Jun 10 1900.1  Perhaps Caroline had been ill and being cared for by Nancy.18
