Oscar was shown in the 1900 census (Jun 19 1900), living in the household of widowed sister Rachel Irene in Alabama Township, Nevada County, Arkansas:⁷

He married Louisa Ellen Daniel.^1,2,4,14  Louisa, daughter of M. N. Daniel & Louise Rodgers, was born Feb 10 1884, Texas.^1,2,4,14  

James was apparently married to Louisa for a short time, as son Leo was born in 1901 when Louisa would have been 17 years old, and in 1905, at age 21, Louisa had remarried.  James left his family and moved to Arkansas.³  

According to family oral history, in some later year son Leo got drunk and left one night for Arkansas.  When he arrived at his father's house his father would not even let him in the door and insisted that he leave.  Devastated, Leo returned home, very depressed, after which he never spoke of his father James again.³  

Louisa remarried to James Wallace Rowan, Nov 25 1905, Weaverton, Marshall County, Oklahoma and had additional children:^1,2,4,14

James was shown in the 1910 census (Apr 25 1910), living as a boarder in the household of a William J. & Ellen M. Johnson on Sixth Street, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Oklahoma:⁸

He then married Laura Jane Ferrell^5,6,17 [Laura Janie Ferrell¹⁰].  Laura, daughter of Samuel Ferrell and Josie Tate^10,17, was born Sep 9 1896^10,17 [about 1886⁵], Arkansas^10,17.  

On Sep 12 1918 James Oscar Henshaw, age 41, registered for the World War I draft in Columbia County, Arkansas He declared he was born March 2 1878 and his then residence was Waldo, Arkansas, where he was a self-employed farmer.  He declared his nearest relative was Janie Henshaw of Waldo, Arkansas.  He was recorded as tall, medium build, blue eyes, brown hair.¹³
