Ephraim Lee [Ephram Lee].
Born 8-30-1779, Cane Creek MM, North Carolina.1,2,3,4,5,6 (8-30-1780).1
Ephraim moved from North Carolina to Tennessee in 1804, settling in Golihers Creek, Blount County. A town was laid out some years later called Friendsville, and a meeting was established called Newberry. Epraim was a hatter, and at one time he made a hat for a himself, but afterwards gave it to a friend. This friend was known to use much profanity when angry. One day this friend was kicked by his horse, but because he had so much respect for Ephraim he would not swear with his hat on. So he would take off the hat, lay it on the ground, and say "Lie there Ephraim, thou art a cake unturned."4
