On Sep 12 1918 Andrew J. Hanshaw, age 38, registered for the World War I draft in Clay County, West Virginia.  He declared he was born April 19 1880, and was then residing in Walback, Clay County, West Virginia, and he was farming in Valley Fork, Clay County, West Virginia.  He declared his nearest relative was Mary D. Hanshaw of Walback.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, blue eyes, dark brown hair.3  

Andrew was shown in the 1920 census (Feb 27 1920), living with his widowed mother in Clay County, West Virginia:4

Hanshaw, Andrew J., head-of-household, age 39, born in West Virginia; parents born in West Virginia; single; rented home; occupation: manager, farm.
Hanshaw, Mary D., mother, age 69, born in West Virginia; parents born in West Virginia; widow.

In 1936 Andrew was living in Anderson, Madison County, Indiana.9  

Andrew Jackson Hanshaw died Feb 19 1953, age 72.5,7  

Unmarried.1  

Jack's obituary was published in the "Anderson Daily Bulletin" (Anderson, Indiana) on February 20, 19536,7 - see scan below.
