Dorothy "Dot" Stevens Hinshaw, 83, died on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge.  

Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements, which were incomplete at presstime.

Dorothy "Dot" Stevens Hinshaw, 83, died on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge.  

The daughter of Talmadge and Mary Smith Stevens, Dorothy was born on July 3, 1921, in Winston-Salem, N.C.  

Mrs. Hinshaw was a member of the Kern Memorial United Methodist Church.  She was a great homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She also enjoyed raising flowers.  

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hinshaw was preceded in death by her brother, Buddy Stevens.  

Mrs. Hinshaw is survived by her husband, T. Speas Hinshaw of Oak Ridge; two sons, Steve Hinshaw of Knoxville and Thornton Hinshaw and wife, Ann, of Melbourne, Fla.; two sisters, Virginia Criner and her twin sister, Doris Kapp, both of Winston Salem, NC; two grandchildren, Sarah and Christopher Hinshaw of Melbourne, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews, including Connie Owens.  

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Flynn officiating.  

Burial will follow the funeral at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.  

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at the funeral home.

Speas Hinshaw

HINSHAW, SPEAS - 89, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, passed away on June 2, 2011.  He was a beloved father and grandfather.  He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy and his brother Bob Hinshaw.  He is survived by his two sons, Steve and Thornton, with his wife Ann and their two children, Sarah and Chris, niece Connie Owens; and several other nieces and nephews.  Speas served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on various aircraft carriers.  He later worked in the space program at Cape Kennedy, FL in support of the manned and unmanned space program.  He retired from Union Carbide in Oak Ridge on March 1, 1984.  His hobbies included genealogy and model trains.  After he retired, he pursued a lifelong long dream to visit the western United States.  A funeral service will be held Saturday June 4, 2011 1:00pm in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev.
