Henry Fetz, eldest son of John Ferree and Jane (Fetz) Foster, was born in Franklin township, Fayette county, Pennsylvania, October 18, 1818, died March 7, 1886. He was educated in the common schools and remained at the home farm in North Union township, his father's assistant until his marriage. He then rented the Samuel Evans farm, on which he lived for twelve years. He then purchased his father's farm of one hundred acres and spent his after life engaged in its cultivation. He was a man of high standing in his community, as the Fosters had ever been during their sixty years' residence on the same farm. He was a Democrat in politics, and served for many years as school director and tax collector. In religious faith both Mr. and Mrs. Foster were Presbyterians. He married Clarissa Torrence Henshaw, born in North Union township, July 4, 1817, died in Uniontown, December 29, 1898, daughter of William Henshaw, a farmer of North Union township, and his wife, Ann Parker. They had also three sons: James S., William H., married Elizabeth Foster; and Nicholas. Children of Henry Fetz Foster: 1. Louisa, born January 8, 1842, died December 30, 1885. 2. Samuel, born June 9, 1844, died aged fifteen years. 3. Virginia, born September 2, 1846, died aged five years. 4. John W., born June 26, 1848; married Mary Eliza Conwell, and is now living retired in Uniontown. 5. Moses A., born December 10, 1850, died aged thirty-six years. 6. (Henshaw) Foster, was born in North Union township, Fayette county, Pennsylvania, and was educated in the public schools of that township and at a select school in Uniontown one mile from her home, walking the distance each way every day regardless of the weather, ten months each year for five years. She remained at the homestead farm until the death of her father, then with her aged and widowed mother took up a residence in Uniontown, where she was the devoted daughter and faithful attendant until death claimed Mrs. Foster at the age of eighty-two years. Miss Foster still continues her home in Uniontown, at 71 Connellsville street. She is a member of the Second Presbyterian church, and a charter member of Union Grange, No, 1103, Patrons of Husbandry, in which she has filled several of the chairs, except the highest, which has never yet been filled in that Grange save by a man.
