He declared he was born January 19th 1884, and was then residing at 601 Walnut Ave., Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia, where he was a manager at a coal company. He declared his nearest relative was Anna Smith Henshaw of the same address. He was recorded as tall, medium build, blue-gray eyes, dark brown hair.5
James and Anna were shown in the 1920 census (Jan 2 1920), 508 Fourth Street, Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia:6

On Apr 27 1942 James Samuel Henshaw, age 58, registered for the World War II draft in Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia. He declared he was born 1-19-1884 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, and was then residing at 307 East Park Ave., Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia. He declared his relative/contact was Flora Henshaw of the same address. He was recorded as 5'6" tall, 155 lbs., blue eyes, gray hair, light complexion.8
