Edmund made his will on the 24th of September, 1880, and a codicil on June 2, 1883. The will was submitted for probate on Nov 30 1883 and is recorded in Randolph County (Indiana) Wills, Record Book 3, pages 119-123 (LDS film #1665903):33
The codicil of 1883:
In the name of God and Justice I Edmund Hinshaw of Whiteriver Township Randolph County Indiana being sixty four years old but being of sound mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and Testament that is to say
Item 1st. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Rachel Hinshaw and my son Jesse Hinshaw all my household and kitchen furniture farming implements & Stock all personal excepting money and notes During the life time of my wife.
Item 2nd. I give and bequeath to my wife all the Interest on all moneys and notes I have left after paying my Just debts as long as she lives.
Item 2 1/2. I give and Devise to my beloved wife Rachel Hinshaw and my son Jesse Hinshaw as long as my wife lives The South West quarter of the north east quarter of Section seven (7) Township Twenty (20) North of Range Fourteen (14) East in Randolph County Indiana provided also that my daughter Ann Eliza Hinshaw shall have a home on said premises with said other parties if she desire it while my wife lives. My son Jesse is to cultivate said premises or have it done and pay over to my wife the full one half of all the rents and profits arising therefrom.
Item 3rd. After the death of my wife I give and Devise to my son Jesse Hinshaw and Daughter Ann Eliza During the life time of my son Jesse after the death of my wife all that tract or parcel of land Described in item two (2) excepting the twelve acres given to my son Seth Described in item (3) three. After the death of my son Jesse It shall all go to my daughter Ann Eliza forever in fee simple or if she shall die before Jesse then at his death it shall go equally to all my heirs.
Item 5. I give and Devise to my son Edmund R Hinshaw the east half of the East half of the south west quarter of Section twenty eight (28) Township twenty (24) north of Range thirteen (13) east in Jay County Indiana.
Item 6. I give and devise to my daughter Mary L Rough the west half of the East of the south west quarter of section twenty eight (28) Township twenty four (24) north of Range thirteen (13) East in Jay County Indiana.
Item 7h. After the death of my wife all the personal property money and notes left I give and bequeath to my son Jesse and Seth and Benjamin E and my daughter Ann Eliza to be equally Divided among them.
Item 8. I hereby revoke all former wills.
Item 9. I hereby nominate and appoint my son Seth Hinshaw Executor of this Will.In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24th day of September 1880.

Item 1st. Be it Remembered that I Edmund Hinshaw being of sound mind and memory do hereby add the following codicil to the annexed will. Item 2nd. As I have delivered deeds to my son Edmund and daughter Mary R Rock respectively for the lands described in item (5) and (6) of my will they have therefore now received their full portion of my property
Item 3. I have also given my Daughter Phoebe Ann Hueston a tract of land which is her full share of all my property

I have Executed Deeds to parcels of land to my Daughter Ann Eliza and my son Benjamin E which deeds are to be delivered to them at my death: and the deed to Benjamin E is to convey to him his portion of all my property but the conveyance to Ann Eliza is in no way to effect the provision I made for her in my will

In the same cemetery where Edmund and his wives are buried is an unidentified and unnamed infant Hinshaw who died in 1852, the gravestone transcribed as "son of E & J Hinshaw".10 This was probably correctly "son of E & I Hinshaw", apparently an otherwise unrecorded (additional) infant son of Edmund & Irena.31
