He married Eliza Jane Pitts, 12-28-1843, Duck Creek MM, Henry County, Indiana.1,8,9,11,14  Eliza, daughter of Cadwallander Pitts & Elizabeth Stanley, was born Jul 23 1824, North Carolina.1,2,5,11,12,13,15  

Cyrus was a hog and grain dealer.  Later had a store in Kennard, Indiana (Cyrus helped lay-out this new town in September, 1822).1

At Duck Creek MM on 6-24-1852, Eliza Jane was complained of for neglected attendence of meeting and disunity.  She was disowned 9-30-1852.9  

At Duck Creek MM on 4-24-1853, Cyrus was complained of for neglected attendence of meeting and attending a marriage contrary to discipline.  He was disowned 4-21-1853.9  [sic - dates are as shown in source record]

Once Cyrus was taken by his father and his brothers Seth and Benjamin to a lecture given by famed Negro abolitionist Frederick Douglas.  Cyrus was so impressed that he invited Frederick Douglas to dinner without a thought for what anyone else would think.  He then made sure to pass on some of the wisdom that was gained from that meeting.  His great grandson, Boyd Wendell Hinshaw, said that the most memorable lesson from Cyrus' meeting was that Frederick Douglas said, "As long as a man owes a debt to another man, he is a slave, because a piece of the productivity of his labor must go to pay that other man until the debt is satisfied."17
