On Feb 16 1942 James Thomas Hinshaw, Jr., age 21, registered for the World War II draft in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina.  He declared he was born July 2nd 1920 in Tobaccoville, Forsyth County, North Carolina, and was then residing at 2904 Woodleight St., Winston-Salem, employed by Dunnagan & Rideout.  He declared his relative/contact was Treva Kirk Hinshaw of 2404 Sunnyside Ave.  He was recorded as 5'6" tall, 140 lbs., brown eyes, red hair, ruddy complexion, and "bad nail middle finger on right hand".5  

On Aug 24 1944 James T. Hinshaw, Jr., born 1920 in North Carolina, enlisted at Camp Croft, South Carolina as a private in the U.S. Army.  He declared he had four years of high school, and was then married.6  

In 2004 James was living in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.8  

James Thomas Hinshaw, Jr. died Apr 22 2008, Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina; age 87.7

James Thomas "Red" Hinshaw Jr.  

HINSHAW Mr. James Thomas "Red" Hinshaw Jr., 87, of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.  He was born July 2, 1920, in Forsyth County to James Thomas Hinshaw Sr. and Treva Kirk Hinshaw.  Mr. Hinshaw was a staff sergeant, 357th Infantry, 90th Division, during World War II from 1944 to 1946.  He was a member of the N.C. National Guard Company B, 120th Infantry, until his retirement as captain in 1980.  He began his career at Dunnagan and Rideout; owned and operated Hinshaw Heating Service; and retired from Winston Leaf Tobacco Co.  He was a 32nd-degree Mason, a member of Salem Lodge 289, a member of the Oasis Temple and Winston-Salem Scottish Rites.  Mr. Hinshaw loved working on Hit and Miss engines and gardening.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, M.K. Hinshaw and David Hinshaw.  Survivors include three daughters, Zeta Price and husband Milton; Pat Snow and husband Richard; and Lynn Broach; five grandchildren, Nicole Barrett and husband, Brad; Emily, Cydney and Hilary; and Tammy Foraker and husband Scott; four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Casey, Shelby and Brandon; and a great-great-grandchild, Abigail.  A graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Norwood Green officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, April 24, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or Shriner' s Hospital for Children, 9950 N. 11 St., Beaumont, TX 77702.
