She married Frederick Waeir Stevens2,8,9,10 [Fred K. Stevens7], Aug 28 18882,8,9,10, Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan2,8,9,10.  Frederick, son of Linus Felt Stevens & Mary Elizabeth Waeir, was born May 24 1865, Clinton County, Michigan.5,9,11

Hoyt Henshaw Stevens, born Nov 21 1890; died Feb 2 1904, buried plot A-31-5 Oakhill Cemetery; namesake of the Hoyt Henshaw Stevens library for crippled children in Detroit. 2,5,12,13,14

Frederick became well known and was listed in "Who's Who in America" in the early 1920s.  Nellie and Frederick made many trips to China, Japan, and Hong Kong between 1920 and 1925.12  

On Oct 20 1920 "Mrs. (Frederick W) Nellie H Stevens was issued a U.S. passport at Washtenaw County, Michigan.  She swore she was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan "on or about the 3d day of May, 1864", and her husband, Frederick W Stevens, was born in Clinton, Michigan and was then resdinging in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  She declared that her pemanent residence was in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where her occupation was "wife".  She declared she intended to visit Japan, China and Hong Kong "Accompanying husband".  She intended to depart from the Port of San Francisco on Nov 19 1920 aboard the "Siberia Maru".  She was recorded as age 56, 5'2" tall, high forehead, brown eyes, straight nose, medium mouth, prominent chin, partly gray hair, ruddy complexion, and round face.  Her passport was retained for her as will call.1  

On Aug 22 1922 "Mrs. (Frederick W) Nellie H Stevens was issued a U.S. passport at Washtenaw County, Michigan "as a second renewal of one issued in October 1920".  She swore she was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan "on or about the 3d day of May, 1865", and her father, Jonathan Hoyt Henshaw, was born in West Falls, New York and was then dead.  She declared that she had previously resided outside of the United States in Peking, China from Jan 1921 to Jun 1921, and in Peking, China from Sep 1921 to Jun 1922.  She declared that her pemanent residence was in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where her occupation was "housekeeper".  Her last passport had been issued from the State Department on Oct 20 1920.  She declared she intended to visit Japan, China and Hong Kong "To accompany husband, & travel, Frederick W Stevens, representative American Bankers in the Consortium".  She intended to depart from the Port of San Francisco on Sep 23 1922 aboard the "Hoosier State".  She was recorded as age 57, 5'2" tall, high forehead, brown eyes, straight nose, medium mouth, prominent chin, partly gray hair, ruddy complexion, and round face.  Her passport was sent to her at 1245 Ferdon Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan.1  

Frederick died Nov 2 1926, Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan; age 61.11,16  

Widow Nellie was shown in the 1930 census (Apr 21 1930), 547 Cherry (apparently an apartment building), Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan:17

Stevens, Nellie H., head-of-household, age 65, born in Michigan; parents born in New York; widow; rented home ($150.00 rent); radio in home.
Olson, Ann, servant, age 25, born in Michigan; parents born in Sweden; married, first married at age 19; occupation: maid, house.

Nellie M. Henshaw died Dec 21 1932, Oakwood Manor Apartments, Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan; age 68y 7m 18d.6,13,18
