John's death was reported in the "Cambridge Chronicle" (Cambridge, Massachusetts) on Saturday, April 23, 1910:¹⁶

Death of John Andrew Henshaw.   Services in honor of the memory of John Andrew Henshaw, one of the three survivors of the Harvard class of '47, were conducted at his residence 23 Craigie street, on Wednesday.  Rev. Samuel M. Crothers, D.D., minister of the First Parish Church, and Rev. Edward H. Hall, D.D., formerly pastor of it, officiated.   Many of the oldest residents of this city attended the funeral.  Mr. Henshaw's two living class mates, too feeble to be present at the obsequies of their honored comrade, sent magnificent floral gifts.  "Lead, Kindly Light," and "Abide with Me" were sung by the Schubert Quartette.  The remains were interred in the family lot at Mount Auburn.   Mr. Henshaw passed away on Tuesday at the age of 82.  He was born in Boston.  Educated to be a chemist, he never engaged in active business.  He made his home in Cambridge, from the time of his marriage about fifty-four years ago.  His wife, who was Caroline Hastings, of Cambridge, died a few weeks ago at the age of 76.  Two children survive, John O. Henshaw, of New York, but lately of Cambridge, and Mabel W. Henshaw.
