SNOW CAMP - Mr. James William Guthrie, 79, of 8560 Old Switchboard Road, Snow Camp, died at his residence on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 6:33 p.m. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mildred Hinshaw Guthrie, who survives and the son of W. Rezzie Guthrie and Alta Newlin Guthrie, both deceased. He was a retired carpenter and dairy farmer. James was of the Quaker faith and attended Center United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Eli Whitney Fire Department with 50 years of service. He was the last surviving member of Harvey Newlin Barn Building Crew.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two daughters, Deborah Holt and husband David of Snow Camp and Dorlos Ammerman and husband Aaron of Burlington; son, Dale Guthrie and wife Katie of Snow Camp; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Guthrie.
The funeral service will be conducted at Center United Methodist Church on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Joseph Park, the Rev. Ray Gooch and the Rev. David Hobson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Eli Whitney Fire Department.
