Godwin, Hinshaw Exchange Vows

Kellie Dair Godwin of Dunn and Richard Hinshaw of Holly Springs were united in marriage during a seaside ceremony Oct. 6 at Atlantic Towers, Carolina Beach, at 5:30 p.m.  

The Rev. Dennis Long, pastor of Mt. Elam Baptist Church in Roseboro, officiated the double-ring ceremony.  

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Adair Godwin of Dunn.  She is a cum laude graduate of Fayetteville State University with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.  

The groom is the son of Dorothy Fields Hinshaw of Burlington and the late Colon Gilmer Hinshaw.  He is a graduate of Walter Williams High School and owns Custom Image Tile in Holly Springs.  

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.  

Attendants

Attending the bride as matron of honor was Kristie Godwin Apperson, sister of the bride, of Dunn.  

Bridesmaids were Janice Hinshaw, sister of the groom, of Smyrna, Ga.; Melisha Kollmar of Dunn; and Selena Lee of Fayetteville.  

Gilmer Delacey Hinshaw of Burlington, brother of the groom, served as the best man.  

Groomsmen were Trey Apperson, brother-in-law of the bride, of Dunn; Seth Coleman, cousin of the bride, of Wilmington; and Glenn Terrell, brother-in-law of the groom, of Burlington.  

Flower girls were Addison Apperson, Allie Apperson, AnnaBeth Apperson, Avery Apperson, Ashlyn Warren and Reagan Warren, nieces of the bride, of Dunn; and Darby Terrell, niece of the groom, of Burlington.  

Nathan Hinshaw of Burlington, nephew of the groom, was the ring bearer.  

The wedding was directed by Cynthia Hardison-Wood, cousin of the bride, of Dunn.  Soloist Ronda Jackson of Roseboro provided music.  

Laura Godwin of Dunn, cousin of the bride, and Jason Honeycutt of Autryville presided at the register.  

Following a wedding trip to the Hawaiian islands of Maui, Kauai and Oahu, the couple will reside in Holly Springs.  

Reception

Following the ceremony, the bride and groom hosted a reception at Waterfronte Yacht Club in Carolina Beach.  

Those assisting with the reception were Debbie, Sylvia, Sally and April Hinshaw, all of Burlington, and Linda Layton of Dunn.  

Rehearsal Dinner

A barbecue dinner was held the eve of the wedding at Waterfronte Yacht Club in Carolina Beach.  

Prenuptial Events

A room-of-the-house shower was hosted by Christy Hairr, Cynthia Hardison-Wood, Kim and Selena Lee and Melisha Kollmar at the home of Jeff and Christy Hairr Aug. 24.  

A shower was hosted by the bride's aunts at the home of Kenny and Pattie Godwin Sept. 4.  

A shower was hosted by Patricia Hinshaw at St. John's Mission Church in Burlington Sept. 9

Kellie died Apr 7 2014, at her home, Plain View, North Carolina; age 37.4

PLAIN VIEW -- Kellie Dair Godwin Hinshaw, 37, of Plain View Community passed away in her home April 7, following an extended illness.  Kellie was born February 3, 1977 to Kenneth and Pattie Godwin of Dunn.  

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Central Baptist Church by the Rev. Tom Wagoner.  Burial will follow in Lee's Chapel/Williford's Cemetery.  

Kellie graduated from Fayetteville State University in 1999 with an Associate degree in Education.  She married husband Richard in October 2001.  She has used her degree in education to home school her children.  

Kellie has fought a courageous battle against Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma since 2002, dealing with several recurrences and physical setbacks.  Determined to empower herself and others against the disease, she started a 5k run in 2009 aimed at bringing together survivors of the rare cancer, and raising money to support research.  In 2013 she broadened her vision to include a patient financial assistance program and community outreach in addition to funding research by forming Kellie's Krew, Ltd, a not-for-profit.  In 2009 she started her fundraising efforts; which has been responsible for donating over $100,000 in research funding, $12,000 in financial support for head and neck cancer patients, and $5,000 in community outreach and scholarships.  The Kellie's Krew Scholarship program, started in 2013, funds educational scholarships based on community service and volunteerism.  

Kellie has been an inspirational speaker since 2008 and has been the guest speaker at many churches and group meetings, sharing her story and using her battles to motivate and inspire others.  

Kellie has been an active member and Ambassador of the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce and was named Ambassador of the Year in 2011 and Dunn's Woman of the Year in 2013.  She is also a wish granter with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and also was a member of Central Baptist Church.  

Kellie is survived by husband Richard Hinshaw; and two sons, Kenneth, 11 and Kannon, 9.  She is also survived by her parents, Kenny and Pattie Godwin of Dunn; two sisters, Kim Godwin Schmidlin and husband Jim of Dunn, Kristie Godwin Apperson and husband Trey of Dunn; nine nieces, Allie, Avery, Anna, and Addison Apperson, Reagan and Ashlyn Warren, Elizabeth, Morgan and Quinn Schmidlin, all of Dunn.  Kellie also leaves behind two sister-in-laws, Janice Talbert of Springfield, La. and Patricia Hinshaw of Burlington.  She is also survived by brothers-in-law, James Hinshaw, Gilmer Hinshaw and Robert Hinshaw, of Burlington, and is survived by several nieces and nephews from Burlington, N.C.  

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Central Baptist Church.
