Jesse Saunders Hinshaw1,2 [Jessie Hinshaw3].
Born Nov 28 1839, Ohio.1,2,4,5,6
In 1855 Jesse's uncle George died, leaving some inheritance to all of his brother Nathan's children, including Jesse.7 On Dec 28 1857, when Jesse was 18 years old, the probate court appointed Joseph Cox as guardian for Jesse1 (presumably he needed a guardian since he was not yet 21, still a minor, yet he had inherited money/property that the court thought should be protected by a guardian). The guardianship was as follows:1
Know all men by these Presents, That we, Joseph Cox, Nathan Hinshaw and Shelton S. Walker all of said Ross County, and State of Ohio, are held and firmly bound unto the State of Ohio, in the penal sum of Eight Hundred dollars, current money, to the payment of which well and truly to be made to the State of Ohio. We bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals, and dated this 28th day of December 1857. Whereas, Jesse Saunders Hinshaw aged Eighteen years on the 28th of November 1857 with the consent of the probate Court, for the County of Ross and the State of Ohio chose Joseph Cox as his guardian, the said Jesse being minor and legal Representative of George Hinshaw deceased.
Now the condition of the above obligation is such, That if the above bound Joseph Cox guardian as aforesaid, will render accurate statement of his transactions, with just account of the profits arising from the estate of said minor and deliver the same to the Court, at such time as they may require, and discharge with fidelity the trust reposed in him then this obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
