Note: Since Cane Creek MM shows Tamer granted a certificate to Westfield MM in 1874, and Westfield shows a Thomas received on a certificate from Cane Creek, and since no Thomas is shown being given a certificate to Westfield anywhere near 1874 and since no Tamer/Tamar is shown being received at Westfield anytime, it has been concluded that Tamer and Thomas must be the same person (presumably female).  

Born Jul 30 1848, Chatham County, North Carolina.1,4,5,7,8,9  

At Cane Creek MM on 7-7-1866, Tamar and sister Leannah were "received by request".2  

At Cane Creek MM on 4-4-1874, Tamar was granted a certificate to Westfield MM, Hamilton County, Indiana.2  

At Westfield MM on 7-2-1874, Thomas was received on a certificate from Cane Creek MM, N.C.6  

She married George Foland, Jul 30 1878, Hamilton County, Indiana.3,4,10,11  George, son of Daniel Webster Foland & Elizabeth Bentrin, was born Jul 30 1838, Ohio.7,8,9,12,13,14  

George had been previously married9 to an Elizabeth Sims, May 6 1864, Hamilton County, Indiana,11 and had two daughters.7

George was a Civil War veteran.  He enlisted Aug 29 1861 as a private in Company B, 8th Indiana Cavalry; promoted to full sergeant; reenlisted Feb 22 1864; mustered out Jul 20 1865, Indianapolis, Indiana.  Noted for Distinguished Service.17

Shortly after the Civil War, George had staked a claim in Oklahoma, but it was disputed.  In 1892 they returned to Oklahoma and acquired another claim, near Kingfisher, living in a tent until their house was completed.  They stayed three years to prove their claim.4  

Tamar taught school in one room of their house.  They had some friendly Indian neighbors who did a "ghost dance" to protect them.  The family later returned to Indiana by covered wagon.4

Foland, Rollie, son, age 19, born May 1881 in Indiana; father born in Ohio; mother born in North Carolina; occupation: farm laborer; attended school 8 months.
Foland, Mettie R., daughter, age 17, born Dec 1882 in Indiana; father born in Ohio; mother born in North Carolina; occupation: house work; attended school 8 months.
Foland, Lee, daughter [sic], male, age 5, born Jan 1895 in Oklahoma; father born in Ohio; mother born in North Carolina.
