She married Ira B. Purchase, about 1916.^3,4,7 Ira, son of James Edwin Purchase & Sarah Elizabeth Mizner⁸, was born Jun - 1891⁸ [1892⁹, Jun 16 1893¹⁰, about 1893^3,4], Olive Township, Ottawa County, Michigan⁸. Ira was the brother of Ralph Purchase who married Bertha's sister Alice.^3,9

On Jun 5 1917 Ira B. Purchase, age 24, had registered for the World War I draft in Muskegon Heights, Muskegon County, Michigan. He declared he was born June 16 1893 in Olive Township, Michigan, and was then residing in Muskegon, Michigan where he was married with a wife and child, and employed as a pattern maker. He claimed an exemption due to "eye sight". He was recorded as tall, stout, blue eyes, dark hair.¹⁰
