Born Dec 8 1856, Union County, Kentucky.^{1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8} James' gravestone shows he was born Dec 1 1855, but the family bible shows Dec 8 1856,¹ and the 1900 census shows Dec 1856.² Although his death certificate shows he was born Dec 8, the year is unclear (185?);^7,8 from the age shown on his death certificate his birthdate would compute to Dec 8 1855^7,8,9 (probably a computational error with the death certificate).

He married Susan "Sudie" Morris, Sep 10 1879.^1,10 Susan, daughter of Thomas Morris & Mary Ann Shipp, was born Mar 28 1861, Woodford County, Kentucky.^1,2,3,6,7,9

James and family were shown in the 1880 census (Jun 4 1880), Union County, Kentucky:⁶

On May 21 1891, James purchased a 137.5 acre tract of land from his brother William and others.¹

James was the administrator of the estate of Gustavis Rowley (died 1896), his uncle and the brother of his mother, Sarah E. Rowley.¹

James Major Henshaw died Jan 21 1912, Union County, Kentucky; age 56 years 1 month 13 days.^1,7,8,9,12 Death certificate #2742; informant was wife "Suda Henshaw" of Henshaw, Kentucky.^7,8 Medical: James died from cardiac asthma (shortness of breath usually due to congestive heart failure).^7,8 James died intestate (without a will) from heart failure.¹

Susan died Jul 14 1914, Henshaw, Union County, Kentucky; age 53 years 3 months 12 days.^1,7,9 Death certificate #22592; informant was son J.T. Henshaw of Henshaw, Kentucky.⁷ Medical: Sudie died of a paralytic stroke of the right side.^1,7
