Dorothy Emma (Hinshaw) Phillips was born on a cotton plantatation in Blythesville, Arkansas on November 7, 1927 to Harry C. Hinshaw and Edna G. (Parvin) Hinshaw. She moved to Holdenville, OK at the age of 7 due to the Mississippi river overflowing the banks and flooding the fields. She moved with her family to Oklahoma City at age 12 and remained in the area. She married Willie (Heavy) Phillips in 1948 in Oklahoma City and for the next 34 years they raised 5 kids. After Heavy passed away she spent the next 28 years with Willis Carter until he passed away in 2013. She passed away on March 5, 2015 at her daughter's home in Moore, OK. Dorothy is survived by her 5 children: Margaret Johnson and husband Delbert of Moore, OK and Beverly Hicks of Oklahoma City, OK, John Phillips and Larry Phillips (Darlene) of Moore, OK, Robyn and Terry Wilhoit of Moore, OK. She is also survived by 15 grandkids, 35 Great Grandkids and 9 Great-Great Grand Kids and one due in April and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by Willie G. (Heavy) Phillips, Willis Carter, her parents Harry and Edna Hinshaw, brothers Harry Hinshaw and Grover Hinshaw, and sister Helen Laskowski. Also, sister in laws Elanor Hinshaw and Verna Hinshaw and brother in law Joseph Laskowski.
Dorothy was most happy when surrounded by family and friends. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles until blindness took her eyesight. Dorothy felt her greatest accomplishment was being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be Monday, March 9, 2015 at Moore Funeral and Cremation with Funeral Services at 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 10, 2015 in funeral home chapel followed by interment in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, OK.
