Mr. William Hinshaw of 806 East Chestnut Street has received a letter from his son, Private Rolla E. Hinshaw, written from Ettelbuck, Luxemburg, on Feb 20, in which he says:
"I have sent papers and partal cards home of the building in which we are billeted. It is a hospital. Spring is here in this country and they plant potatoes next month, so I am told. I do not think we will get home until June and maybe not until September, but don't worry. because I am getting along fine and feeling good."
Private Hinshaw is with the 129th infantry. He met a soldier named R. B. Hinshaw from Australia.
Private Hinshaw encloses a copy of the Paris edition of the Chicago Tribune, in which apears an article headed, "Thirty third Divisions Holds Many Distinction as Fighting Unit". The 129th infantry is a part of this division. The division was formed with the Illinois national guard elements as a nucleus, and was trained at Camp Logan prior to embarking for France. The division got into the fighting on the British front soon after it's arrival, and on July 4, fought alongside the British and Australians on July 4. It was the first American division to be decorated by the king of England. The division was afterward sent to Verdun, where it was in the trenches for forty-four days. It participate in the great attack of the Firt American Army in the Argonne on Sept. 26 and fought continuous until Oct. 2. It was then transferred to the Meuss sector and did more good work. The thirty-third division claims to be the only American division which has fought with the British, French, and Americans. It has formed a-part of five different armies.
