Born Dec 1 1817, Rockingham County, Virginia.1,2,3
He married Nancy Edwards, Jan 30 1839, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.1,3,4,5,6 Nancy, daughter of David Edwards, Jr. & Alice Johnson1,3,4, was born 18191,3,4 [about 18182], Muhlenberg County, Kentucky1,3,4.
In spite of the fact that James and Nancy were married in Muhlenberg County in 1839, and their daughter Martha was reportedly born in the same county in 1841, James does not appear to be anywhere in the 1840 census of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.7 They were probably living within someone else's household8 (the 1840 census shows only the name of head-of-household).
James and family were shown in the 1850 census (Sep 10 1850), Logan County, Kentucky:2
James served in the Civil War. He was mustered in December 13, 1861 at Calhoun, McLean County, Kentucky. Mounted Volunteers (later became Kentucky Cavalry). Promoted from private to corporal July 23, 1863. Re-enlisted for 3 years at Nashville, TN. Mustered in February 14, 1864 at Nashville, Co. H, 3rd Regiment of Kentucky Cavalry Volunteers.1
James was blue eyed, dark hair, and dark complexion.1
James Monroe Hinchee died Marion, Kentucky.
