Born May 3 1882, Wilsey, Morris County, Kansas.1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10
Lewis Everett Hinshaw, Jr. said his father was born on the family farm near Wisley, Kansas; however his sister, Elsie Mable, said he was born in Missouri.1 The 1920, 1930 and 1940 censuses all show he was born in Kansas.5,6,7
When Lewis was not yet eighteen he joined the army, making it his lifetime career.1 On Jan 24 1902 Lewis E. Hinshaw enlisted in the U.S. Army at Kansas City, Missouri. He declared he was age 21 years 10 months, born in Morris County, Kansas, occupied as a laborer. He was recorded as 5' 8 3/4" tall, blue eyes, dark hair, ruddy complexion.11 He was discharged Mar 12 190411 On Jun 2 1907 Lewis E. Hinshaw re-enlisted in the U.S. Army. He declared he was age 27, born in Wilsey, Kansas, occupied as a soldier. He was recorded as 5'9" tall, blue eyes, dark hair, dark complexion.11 On Jun 2 1910 Lewis E. Hinshaw re-enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort McPherson, Georgia. He declared he was age 30, born in Wilsey, Kansas, occupied as a soldier. He was recorded as 5' 9 3/4" tall, blue eyes, dark hair, dark complexion. He was discharged Jun 1 1913 at Fort McPherson, Georgia.11 He attained the rank of Captain, and was later honorably discharged on Sep 15 1922.9
He married Kathryn Marie Pytko1 [Catherine Pytko12], 19151, Hoosick Falls, New York1. Kathryn, daughter of Charles + Barbara Pytko12, was born May 6 189412, Massachusetts12 [Hoosick Falls, New York1,13,14].
After their marriage, Kathryn moved to Kansas City, Missouri and lived with her sister-in-law Elsie Mable while Captain Lewis Hinshaw was stationed at Camp Pike, Arkansas.1
Kathryn died Oct 12 1918, 3832 Garfield, Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri; age 24y 5m 6d.1,13,14 Medical: Kathryn died from Spanish Influenza during the great epidemic of 1918.1,13
After Kathryn died, their son Lewis Jr. was raised by Lewis' sister Elsie Mable.1,2
