Henshaw, age 32, registered for the World War I draft in Volusia County, Florida.^4,5 He declared he was born April 22 1886, and was then living in New Smyrna, Florida, employed by the New Symrna Public House [unclear]. He declared his nearest relative was his father, E.E. Henshaw of East Aurora, New York. He was recorded as tall, stout, brown eyes, dark hair.⁵

He then married Ruth Larkins⁹ [Ruth Z. Larkin^1,10], Apr 27 1919⁹, Volusia County, Florida⁹. Ruth was born Sep 24 1896, Georgia.^{1,2,3,8,10,11,12}

Edward was the first full-time paid fire chief of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He served from 1923 - 1947. Edward and his family lived above the fire station, with a fire pole in their living room.¹³
