During World War II, Fred served 1943-45 as a radioman on ship in the Pacific. Later he operated a cafe in Pittsboro; worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio; at Jefferson Proving Grounds in Indiana; then with U.S. Agency for International Development in Rabat, Morocco (1957-60), Vietnam (1960-64), Thailand (1964-71), and Monrovia (1971-72).1
Fred and Lucille were divorced Jan 9 1950 while they were living in an apartment at the home of Fred's parents near Fairborn, Ohio.1 Lucille took the children back to Pittsboro where she raised them with financial support from Fred.
