On Jun 5 1917 Ray Ward Hinshaw, age 28, registered for the World War I draft in Bloomington, McLean County, Illinois.  He declared he was born April 23 1889 in Gillum, Illinois, and was then residing at 1403 W. Mulberry, Bloomington, where he was married and a shoe salesman employed by R.F. Empson of Bloomington.  He claimed an exemption due to "support of wife".  He was recorded as tall, medium build, dark brown eyes, dark brown hair.6
