In 1898 Verlin moved from Traverse City, Grand Traverse County, Michigan to Rose Hill, Kansas.15
He married Florence Mae McLaughlin7,14,16,17 [Florence May McLaughlin2,15], Apr 13 19047,14,16,17, Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas7,14,16,17. Florence, daughter of Daniel Webster McLaughlin & Mary J. Gosnell3,6,7,9,16,18, was born May 23 18843,6,7,9,16,18 [May 24 18842], near Maroa, Macon County, Illinois3,6,7,9,16,18.
Florence's parents lived just three houses away from a John Dunlap family where Verlin's uncle, Isaiah, had been working as a farm laborer19 (it's entirely possible that Isaiah might have introduced Florence to Verlin).20
Verlin was a member of the University Friends Church in Wichita, Kansas.15 He was a farmer,4,21 and worked property in Butler County, Sedgwick County, and for one season in Dunn County, South Dakota.14

On 12-14-1910 at Greencastle Monthly Meeting (Sumner County, Kansas), Verlin Hinshaw & wife Florence and son Leslie were received on a certificate from Rose Hill MM, [Butler County,] Kansas.22
On Sep 12 1918 Verlin Chauncey Hinshaw, age 37, registered for the World War I draft in Wellington, Sumner County, Kansas. He declared he was born July 21 1881, and he was then residing in Wellington where he was a self-employed farmer. He declared his nearest relative was Florence Hinshaw of Wellington. He was recorded as medium height, stout, blue eyes, light hair.13
