In 1912 he worked as a "railroad maintenance man".    At the railroad he met his future wife Alice, who worked there as a cook.^k

He married Alice Georgia Hopkins, about 1911.^i,h    Alice, daughter of Uriah Hopkins & Arminta Lucrethia Augusta Proffer, was born Jan 3 1893, Missouri.^i,209,g,h

On Jun 2 1917 Thomas Vestel Hinshaw, age 26, registered for the World War I draft in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.    He declared he was born December 16 1890 in Hickman [county], Kentucky, and was then residing at 5260 Second Ave., Pittsburgh with a wife and two children, and was a fireman employed by the B&O R.R.    He claimed an exemption due to "wife and two children".    He was recorded as medium height, medium build, grey-brown eyes, black hair.^c

Thomas and family were shown in the 1920 census (Jan 6 1920), 74 Alameda Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania:^g

Thomas worked with the railroad until retirement.^k    He retired to Fontana, California.ⁱ

Thomas Vestal Hinshaw died Feb 6 1961, Covina, Los Angeles County, California; buried Sunnyside Memorial Park, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California.^i,f

In 1974 Alice was living in Santa Fe Springs, Los Angeles County, California.²⁰⁹
