In 1988 Cletis (and presumably also Vivian) were living in/near Carmen, Alfalfa County, Oklahoma.5  

Cletis died Feb 5 1988, Carmen, Alfalfa County, Oklahoma; buried Carmen Cemetery, Carmen, Alfalfa County, Oklahoma.2,5  

Cletis' obituary was published as follows:2

Cletis Marlin Lakey was born December 28, 1905, in Carmen Okla. Indian Territory, and departed this life on February 5. 1988.  Except for a four year period when the family lived in Colorado, he grew up in the Carmen area.  After graduation from Carmen High School in 1924 he attended Northwestern Normal School in Alva.  During this time he also joined the National Guard.  He taught school in the Freedom area for two years and in 1929 he inlisted [sic] in the U.S. Army.  Cletis' 31 year career in the Army began at Fort Bliss near El Paso, Texas.  He became a communication specialist.  During World War II he served in Europe.  In 1945 he was with the occupational forces in Japan.  Following a brief stay in the United States he was again sent to Asia in 1950 for a tour of duty in Korea.  He retired in 1957 in Fort Gordon, Georgia.  A strong support during his Military Career was his wife, Corine, whom he married on December 24, 1935 in Highland, Arkansas.  

Since 1961, they have made their home in Carmen.  Cletis was a member of the United Methodist Church in Carmen, a lay leader, a member of the board, and a teacher of the Comrades Sunday School Class.  In addition to his church activities, he served on the town council, was active in the American Legion, the Rotary Club, and the Senior Citizen.  He enjoyed civic activities in this community in every aspect.  

He is survived by Corine, his wife of 52 years; two daughters, Dorothy Bartley of Sand Springs, and Mary Kruger of Enid; three granddaughters Leona Carpenter and Penny Bartley, both of Sand Springs, and Ann Jarrell of Enid.  One great grandson, Kyle Carpenter of Sand Springs; two brothers, Icel of Woodward and Leonard of Wichita; several neices and nephews, and a host of relativies and friends and will be deeply missed by all.

Corine Lakey

Carmen - The funeral for Corine Lakey, 86, was Monday at Carmen United Methodist Church.  Kirk Board and Lance Leslie officiated.  Burial was in Carmen City Cemetery, directed by Wentworth Mortuary.  She died June 2, 2000, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center, Enid.  

She was born Jan 30, 1913 in Denton, Ark., to Sam Jones and Belle Endsley Henshaw.  

She attended schools in Hardey, Ark.  On Dec 24, 1935, she married Cletis M. Lakey in Highland, Ark.  He was in the army and they lived in Missouri, Texas, Louisiana, New Jersey, Georgia, France and Japan.  After he retired, they moved to Carmen.  

She was a member of the Methodist Church and sang in the choir.  She was active in Progressive Study Club, member of the Carmen Library Board and was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary.  

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lynne Kruger and Dorothy Bartley; a sister, Mary Lou Yarbough of Augusta, Ga.; three granddaughters and three great grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Feb 5, 1988.
