The Hinshaws had been neighbors of Mary Wall's grandfather back in Randolph County, North Carolina.2
It is believed that Robert either left/abandoned Mary or they were divorced, shortly after Mary contracted tuberculosis.14 Mary died May 9 1917, Knightstown, Henry County, Indiana; age 24.2,13,15

He declared he was born July 30th 1888 in Carthage, Indiana, and was then still residing in Carthage, occupied as a telegraph operator. He declared he was single, with dependents father, mother and 1 child. He was recorded as medium height, medium build, blue eyes, dark brown hair.8

On Apr 27 1942 Robert E. Hinshaw, age 53, registered for the World War II draft in Rushville, Rush County, Indiana. He declared he was born July 30 1888 in Rush [county], Indiana, and was then residing at 532 N. Jackson in Rushville, employed by the U.S. Army Ordinance Dept. He declared his relative/contact was Leona R. Hinshaw of the same address. He was recorded as 5'6" tall, 150 lbs., blue eyes, brown hair, medium complexion, and "Appendix scar. Scar in left palm.".11

ROBERT E. HINSHAW
Robert E. Hinshaw, 97, 206 E. Eighth Street, Rushville, died Monday morning in his home.
Born July 31, 1888 in Carthage, he was the son of William Nathan and Laura Judy Hinshaw. He was married June 25, 1921, to Leona R. Ruddell who died Jan. 31, 1984.
He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge 62 and American Legion Post 150. He was a veteran of World War I. He had lived in Rush County all of his life. From 1949-1969, he served as the Rushville Justice of Peace.
Survivors include two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be hald 10 a.m. Thursday in the Wyatt-Moore Mortuary with the Rev. E. David Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call in the mortuary Wednesday from 2-8 p.m.
