Hugh Hinshaw13,14 [Hugh Hinchaw15,16, Hugh Henshaw3,17].

Born Jul 22 1818, McMurry County, Tennessee.17,18

Note: The book "Hinshaw and Henshaw Families" shows Hugh born in 1818 in McMurry County, Tennessee.13  However there is no such county or place in Tennessee (on modern maps anyway).  The 1860 census for Williamson County, Illinois shows Hugh born in Alabama, age 35 (born about 1825).4  But the 1850 census for Williamson County shows him age 25 (born about 1825), born in Tennessee!3  His gravestone shows he was born 7-22-1818.17

He married Jane Campbell14,15,16,19 [Genette Jane Tanner6, Jane Tanner3,6], Jun 8 184614,15,16,19, Williamson County, Illinois14,15,16,19.  Daughter Mary Ann's death certificate, showing information provided by one of Mary Ann's daughters, shows her mother's name was Jane Campbell.19  Hugh's marriage record in Williamson County, Illinois also shows her as Jane Campbell.15,16

Jane was born Feb 9 18206,18 [Feb - 181320], Tennessee6,18.

Hugh and family were shown in the 1850 census, Williamson County, Illinois:3

Hugh Henshaw, age 25, born in Tennessee; farmer.
Jane Henshaw, age 24, born in Tennessee; cannot read or write.
Joseph Henshaw, age 4, born in Illinois.
Carroll W. Henshaw, age 3, born in Illinois.
James M. Henshaw, age 2, born in Illinois.
Anderson C. Henshaw, age 1, born in Illinois.

Hugh and family were again shown in the 1860 census Williamson County, Illinois:4

Hugh Henshaw, age 35, born in Alabama; farmer; $1500 real estate; $700 personal property; cannot read or write.
Genette Henshaw, age 34, born in Tennessee; cannot read or write.
Jas. Henshaw, age 13, born in Illinois.
Anderson Henshaw, age 8, born in Illinois.
Jasper Henshaw, age 14, born in Illinois.
Mary A. Henshaw, age 6, born in Illinois.
Hugh Henshaw, age 4, born in Illinois.
B.S.Y. Henshaw, age 2, born in Illinois.
Wm Henshaw, age 2, born in Illinois.

A Hugh Henshaw family was again shown in the 1880 census (Jun 14 1880), Saline Township, Williamson County, Illinois:21

Henshaw, Hugh, age 58, born in Alabama; parents born in Alabama; farmer; cannot read or write.
Henshaw, Jane, wife, age 57, born in Tennessee; parents born in Virginia; keeping house; cannot read or write.
Henshaw, Mary A., daughter, age 18, born in Illinois; father born in Alabama; mother born in Tennessee; single; cannot read or write.
Henshaw, Geo B., son, age 14, born in Illinois; father born in Alabama; mother born in Tennessee; single; cannot read or write.
Note that the above 1880 census data seems to be in conflict with other sources on both the ages of all family members, and also daughter Mary Ann was married in 1872.  It is possible the above 1880 census data might have been a different Hugh Henshaw family, although living on one side of this family was the family of brother Carrel Henshaw, and on the other side was the family of son James Milo Henshaw.

Hugh Henshaw donated the land for what became known as Henshaw School #74 in Section 14 of Stonefort Township, which Hugh had entered in 1854.22

Hugh Hinshaw died Jan 31 1898, buried in the Henshaw Cemetery, near Stonefort, Williamson County, Illinois.17,18,23

Widow Jane was shown in the 1900 census (Jun 18 1900), living alone in Stonefort Township, Williamson County, Illinois:20

Henshaw, J, head-of-household, age 87, born Feb 1813 in Tennessee; father's birthplace blank, mother born in Virginia; widow; 12 children, 10 living; cannot read or write; owns home.

Jane died Aug 17 1904, Stonefort, Williamson County, Illinois; buried in the Henshaw Cemetery, near Stonefort, Williamson County, Illinois.7,18,23  Jane's gravestone (which shows no death date) has the following epitath:18

Remember friends as you pass by, as you are now so once was I, as I am now so you must be, prepare for death and follow me.

Jane's will was written on Nov 18 1899 and probated Oct 5 1904 (Williamson County, Illinois, Will Book C, page 48).7  In her will Jane listed her surviving children William Henry Henshaw, Mary Ann Henshaw Keel, and Eliza Jane Henshaw Parsons.7  She also listed as deceased children: Anderson Corder Henshaw and James Milo Henshaw.  Anderson and James had surviving children, who Jane did not mention by name but did leave these grandchildren a small monetary amount.7
