Gertrude, a servant girl in the household of John U. Hinshaw & Lydia Henderson,^1,2 appears to have been adopted (formally or informally) by John & Lydia Hinshaw,⁶ or at least she seems to have taken the Hinshaw name.³

She married Thomas Lloyd VanMeter^3,4 [Loyd VanMeter³, Lloyd VanMeter^4,7], Nov 30 1912^3,4, White County, Indiana^3,4. Thomas, son of Jacob VanMeter & Mary V. Hughes, was born Jun 19 1886, White County, Indiana.^{3,4,5,8,9,10,11} (Jun 18 1886).⁷

He declared he was born June 19 1886 in White County, Indiana, and was then residing in Monticello, [White County,] Indiana where he had a dependent wife and was a self-employed farmer.
