Born Apr 10 1876, 13 Gloucester, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.1,3,8,9,10,11,12,13,14
Charles was the president and treasurer of "Henshaw Motor Company", an early retail automobile sales/service company. He was also a well-known motorcycle ("motor bicycle") racer in the early 1900s, teaming-up with Carl Oscar Hedstrom (who became co-founder of the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company).15 Charles started racing bicycles in 1890 and worked for a tire manufacturer in 1896, touring the country racing bicycles.15 He did well, winning the Greater New York Championship and many races in New England.16 Charles partnered with the renowned French racer, Henry Fournier, doing public exhibitions of motorcycles. In 1898, Charles partnered with E.R. Thomas in promotion of their motorcycles. In 1900, both Charles and Oscar Hedstrom teamed up to build a "pacer" (a motorized bicycle),15 which they named "Typhoon".16 This effort caught the attention of George Hendee, a bicycle dealer, who would later team up with Oscar Hedstrom to start the Indian brand of motorcycles in 1901. Charles went on to represent Kenneth A. Skinner, the sole U.S. agent for DeDion Bouton cars and bikes and engines. He later went back to the E.R. Thomas company15 and in 1904 became the manager of the Metropolitan Thomas Motor branch of Boston at least until 191116 At some point thereafter he joined Noyes Buick of Boston and rose to become the Sales Manager for all of New England.16
He married Mary Delia Johnson, Jan 10 1903, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.1,3,4,17 Mary, daughter of John A. + Margaret Johnson, was born about 1880, Middletown, Connecticut.1,3,13,17
