Marshalltown, IA -- George Hinshaw, 87, a Marshalltown attorney, passed away February 11, 2014, at the Iowa River Hospice House, in Marshalltown.  Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Elmwood Country Club, in Marshalltown.  A continued time of fellowship along with time to greet family and share memories will follow the memorial service.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Marshalltown Rotary Scholarship Fund or the Marshalltown Library.  He is survived by his wife Beverly, children Kay Neznik and Jim Hinshaw, and grandchildren Walker and Erissa Hinshaw.  Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com

He is survived by his wife Beverly, children Kay Neznik and Jim Hinshaw, and grandchildren Walker and Erissa Hinshaw.  

George was distinguished by his lifetime of service.  After graduating from MHS in 1944, he served in the Navy as a pharmacist mate.  He went to college on the GI Bill and graduated from the University of Minnesota where as a top student, he served on the law review.  Mr. Hinshaw was awarded the Jr. Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award in 1962.  He was president of the Board of Trustees of the Marshalltown library and county chairman of the Fire and Police Pension Board.  He served as an officer of the American Red Cross and president of the Marshalltown United Way.  He was president of the Marshall County Bar Association and county chair of the Republican Party.  He served as president of the Marshalltown Country Club.  He was awarded boss of the year by the Marshalltown Legal Secretaries Association in 1980 and 1982.  Mr. Hinshaw was presented with the Iowa Bar Association Pro-bono Award in 2003, and the Rotary Kenneth Brinttnall Memorial Award for distinguished service in 2004.  Mr. Hinshaw also served as Assistant County Attorney and as an alternate municipal judge.  Later, he served as an officer for the Ames International Orchestra Festival Association.  He also served on the steering committee for MCC creative retirement program in 1997 where he wrote the bylaws.  He was an avid golfer and a hamm radio operator.  He enjoyed the outdoors, the Cubs and his family.  His final act of selflessness was to donate his body to the University of Iowa.
