Living next door in 1880 was John's widower father, John T. Chesher, age 55.5 Living two houses away in 1880 was Amanda's brother William,6 and two houses away on the other side was her brother James.7 Also nearby was the household of Amanda's parents.8

The Harrison Cheshire above was probably Thomas Harrison Cheshire, son of Amanda's sister Samantha Caroline (and John's brother).9
John remarried c1909 to Mary Aretta "Retta" Stalsworth (Oct 15 1865 - Aug 23 1913).10 She was the daughter of Samuel Stalsworth & Susannah "Susan" Coffey,10 (Amanda's maternal aunt and uncle) and therefore was Amanda's first cousin (and John & Amanda's next door neighbor).11,12
John and his new wife, Retta, were shown in the 1910 census (May 6 1910), Grainger County, Tennessee:13
