Man injured after vehicle strikes horse A St. Joseph man was seriously injured when his vehicle struck a horse on Missouri Highway 371 early Thursday morning.
Kenneth E. Withrow, 47, was driving a 1996 Dodge northbound on Highway 371 when a horse ran into the roadway about three miles south of St. Joseph city limits, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported. At about 1:15 a.m., the vehicle collided with the horse.
Mr. Withrow was listed in critical condition at Heartland Regional Medical Center, a representative said. A passenger in the Dodge, Terry B. Miller, 62, St. Joseph, also suffered minor injuries but wasn’t transported to Heartland, a patrol crash report stated.
Mr. Withrow wasn’t wearing a seat belt, according to the report. [sic: false report - he was wearing a seat belt]

Ken Withrow
1958-2006Ken Withrow, 47, St. Joseph, MO., passed away Thursday, March 16, 2006, at the local hospital due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Ken was born Oct. 1, 1958, in St. Joseph, where he was a lifelong resident. He was a 1976 graduate of Central High School.
Mr. Withrow married Jeannie Snyder on Oct. 1, 1976. She survives of the home.
Ken worked for Associated Wholesale Grocers in Kansas City, Kan.; and was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church and Teamsters Union Local No. 955.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Withrow.
Additional survivors include mother, Neva (Withrow) Wier, and husband, Marvin, St. Joseph; three children, Renee Withrow, Michael Withrow and Melanie Withrow, all of St. Joseph; and four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jillian, Kaylie and Lauren. Ken was awaiting the arrival of two additional grandchildren, Michaela and Zechariah. Also surviving are two brothers, Richard Withrow, Faucett, Mo.; and Ron Withrow, Warsaw, Ind.; sister, Cheryl Welch, Savannah, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service: 10 a.m. Monday, Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation: begins after 9 a.m. Sunday, at the chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Eastside Baptist Church.
