Eugene Ray Fitzwater

Eugene Ray Fitzwater, 84, of Boomer died at Montgomery General Hospital on Sunday, January 28, 2007, following a courageous battle with cancer.  

Born November 23, 1922, at Little Laurel, Clay County, he was the son of the late Silas Edward and Rosetta Emeline Justice Fitzwater.  He was also preceded in death by an infant son, David Ray; three brothers, Homer, Roscoe and Delbert Fitzwater; and four sisters, Alma Smith, Mary Friend, Ivy Williams and Rebecca Frame.  

On October 8, 1944 he was united in marriage to Hazel Maxine Hanshaw, daughter of the late Alfred Bruce and Allie Winnie Hanshaw of Valley Fork.  Mr. Fitzwater was a retired employee of Union Carbide Corporation, formerly at Alloy, and was a member of Boomer Baptist Church, Boomer.  His interests included hunting and playing with his grandchildren.  

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Hazel; son and his wife, Randy and Nancy of Boomer; son and his wife, David and Karen of Charleston, West Virginia; son, John of Boomer; four grandchildren, Brittany, Joshua, Johnathan and Lindsey Fitzwater; and sister, Pearl Walker of Sissonville.  

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, at Boomer Baptist Church with David West and Pastor Mike Brendel officiating.  Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.  

Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the church.  

O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, is in charge of arrangements.

Hazel Maxine Fitzwater

Hazel Maxine Fitzwater, 82, of Boomer passed away Monday February 22, 2010, of natural causes at Montgomery General Elderly Care, Montgomery.  

Hazel was born July 8, 1927, the daughter of Alfred Bruce Hanshaw and Allie Winnie (Rogers) Hanshaw, in Clay County.  She had four brothers, Homer, Leamon, Romie, and Wannie.  She also had five sisters, Alice, Gilberta "Sis", Lona, Maysel, and Stella.  

She was the postmaster at Valley Fork and also worked for Montgomery Ward in Charleston.  She enjoyed sewing, yard sales, flea marketing, and playing with her grandchildren.  She always saw the positive in everything and everyone and her motto was "Where there is a will, there is a way."  

She is survived by sons, Randy (Nancy) Fitzwater of Boomer, David (Karen) Fitzwater of Charleston and John Fitzwater of Boomer; four grandchildren, Brittany Long, Joshua Fitzwater, Johnathan Fitzwater and Lindsey Fitzwater; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.  

Hazel was a member of the Boomer Baptist Church.  

Her family would like to express their appreciation to Mrs. Reba Jenkins for her loving care of their mother during her illness.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Ray Fitzwater; infant son, David Ray Fitzwater; her parents; five sisters and four brothers.  

Her remains have been gifted to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine for Alzheimer's disease research.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be sent to the Human Gift Registry, West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, 400 North Lee St., Lewisburg, WV 24901, in memory of Mrs. Fitzwater.  

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at Boomer Baptist Church, Boomer.  Friends and family are invited to attend in celebration of her life.
