William's obituary was published in the San Jose Daily Mercury on Thursday, January 3, 1901:6
Death of an Aged and Well-Known Pioneer Citizen.
SANTA CLARA, Jan. 2. - William W. Hinshaw, a well-known resident of this place and a brother of J. A. Hinshaw of Campbell and N. C. Hinshaw of Ukiah, died at 7 o'clock this morning near Santa Clara. The deceased was a native of North Carolina and was in his sixty-eighth year. He has been a resident of this State for many years. For the past five years he had been employed at the Moody livery stable on Jackson street. He was of a quiet disposition and was much esteemed by all who knew him. His funeral will take place on Friday morning at 10 o'clock from the undertaking parlors of William Fleury.
