He married Margaret H. Barley, Apr 23 1812, Rockingham County, Virginia.1,2  Margaret, daughter of James Barley & Sarah Wiseman, was born about 1793, Rockingham County, Virginia.1,8,9  

William volunteered for service in the War of 1812 on Sep 1 1814.  He served in Captain Ralph Lofftus' Company of Virginia Cavalry Volunteers.  He was discharged at Richmond, Virginia about Nov 12 1814.2
