Howard W. Hinshaw, 78 of Portland, whose daughter, Mrs. David (Virginia) Townsend, resides in Bluffton, died this morning at Jay County Hospital in Portland.  He retired in 1978 from Sheller-Globe Corp. after 24 years.  Mr. Hinshaw was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.  He was a member of American Legion Post 211 and the DAV Post, both at Portland.  He was born in Randolph County Nov. 28, 1919 to Merle and Alta Rickard Hinshaw.  His marriage Nov. 14, 1942 was to Lois Penrod, who survives.  Surviving, in addition to his wife and the daughter in Bluffton, are another daughter, Nancy Carter of Muncie; a brother, Riley Lovell of Winchester; a sister, Mrs. Donald (Helen) Snodgrass of New Paris, Ohio; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland with Rev. Charles Cummings officiating.  Burial will follow in IOOF Cemetery at Pennville with graveside rites by the American Legion Post.  Visitation at the funeral home will be Sunday from 12 noon to 5 p.m.  Memorials to the Shrine Crippled Children Fund or to the donor's choice

Lois died Dec 31 2012, Elmcroft Nursing Facility, Muncie, Indiana; buried Twin Hills IOOF Cemetery, Pennville, Penn Township, Jay County, Indiana.10

Lois P. Hinshaw age 89, former resident of 316 East Elder Street Portland passed away Monday in Elmcroft Nursing Facility in Muncie.  She was born in Jay County April 9, 1923 the daughter of Leonard and Pearl (Teeters) Penrod.  She was married November 14, 1942 to Howard W. Hinshaw and he passed away November 27, 1998.  She was retired from Jay Garment in Portland having worked there for twenty seven years.  She was a member of the D.A.V. auxiliary.  

Surviving are two daughters Virginia Townsend of Rising Sun, IN. and Nancy Carter of Muncie, one brother Tom Penrod of Portland, two sisters Wanda Runkle of Winchester and Jane Miller of Sun City, Arizona, Four grandchildren William Myers (wife Cheryl) of Leesburg, In., Doris Bowman of Rising Sun, John Carter (wife Julie) of Muncie and Mrs. Robert (Cheryl) Dominick of Albany, Eleven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two brothers Hiram Penrod and Freddie Penrod, one sister Mary Alice Bushall and a great grandchild Steven Myers

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 A.M. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Rogers Durham presiding.  Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Pennville.  Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M.  Memorials can be made to Shrine Crippled Childrens or Alzheimers Foundation.
