In or about 1922 William built the first radio receiver in Tipton County, Indiana,20 for which he was noted (with a photo of his daughters - below) on the front cover of "Radio Broadcasting News" magazine.21  

In 1926 Pearl's prize-winning essay on "Why I Like The Movies" won her a trip for two around the world.20
