On Jun 5 1917 Fernando Allen Hinshaw, age 29, registered for the World War I draft at Providence, Randolph County, North Carolina.  He declared his residence was Julian, North Carolina, self-employed in agriculture, and single.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, blue eyes, black hair.¹⁵  

Fernando was a consciencious objector during World War I and was badly treated in the armed forces until he contracted an illness (probably influenza) which gave him an excuse to return home.¹⁷  

He married Estelle Aldridge, Jun 15 1919.^1,2,4,5,6  Estelle, daughter of Robert Lee + Sarah Elizabeth Allridge^{1,2,6,7,11,12,16} [Robert Lee Aldridge & Martitia Isabelle Amick⁴], was born Oct 18 1893^{1,2,6,7,11,12,16}, North Carolina^{1,2,6,7,11,12,16}.
